Dirk Roßmann opens its first "health and beauty shop". It is the first discount health and beauty shop in Germany and is located in the heart of Hanover.

Rossmann headquarters moves from Hanover to Burgwedel. Twenty Rossmann shops are managed from the new headquarters which is in a former Rewe warehouse.

The company offers its employees a wide-ranging seminar programme for personal development in its own training centre "Waldhof", close to Bispingen.

Rossmann-Drogeriemärkte celebrates its tenth anniversary. The company is market leader in northern Germany with 100 shops (sales 1981: DM 170m / € 87m).

Rossmann successfully enters the perfume business, also implementing the discount principle by refusing price-fixing and depot systems. The first daily newspaper supplement is published.

The first two Rossmann health and beauty shops are opened in the regions of Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. Nationwide expansion in East Germany begins in the following year.

During the 20th year of operations, Dirk Rossmann KG runs 158 retail shops in the old Federal States and Rossmann Ost GmbH already has 120 retail shops in the new Federal States (Group sales DM 520m / € 266m). The offices move into the newly built headquarters (12,500 m²) close to the motorway junction on the A7.

The first Rossmann health and beauty shops in Eastern Europe open their doors in Poland (Lodz) and Hungary (Debrecen).

Meanwhile, there are 260 retail shops in the new Federal States. A regional logistics centre (5,000 m²) is built to serve them in Landsberg, near Halle.

Rossmann and the Dutch trading company Groenwoudt/Kruidvat found a joint holding company (R&R Oost Europa B.V.) in order to accelerate further expansion in Eastern Europe.

The company celebrates its 25th anniversary. Rossmann has 444 health and beauty shops in Germany and 55 shops in Eastern Europe (sales DM 980m / € 501m). The first Rossmann quality brands are launched: babydream and sun-ozon.

Rossmann is the first company in the industry to bring health and beauty retail to the internet with Rossmann Online GmbH.

Rossmann takes over 90 Idea shops from the Rewe group in North Germany. The Rossmann training initiative begins in the same year as 104 apprentices are taken on board. Headquarters in Burgwedel is extended by 4,000 m² (16,500 m²).

Construction of a new logistics centre in Landsberg is begun (20,000 m²). The company makes headline news concerning recycling with its decision against DSD (Duales System Deutschland GmbH) and in favour of the association for self-managed waste disposal (Verband der Selbstentsorger).

During the company’s thirtieth anniversary, the new logistics centre in Landsberg is inaugurated by the Federal Chancellor Schröder. Construction of the high rack warehouse is started in Burgwedel. The company has about 900 health and beauty shops in Germany and Eastern Europe.

A cooperation agreement is signed with kd and Rossmann is entrusted with the operation of Kaisers Drugstore kd. Seventy kd branch shops are taken over in the Rossmann sales areas. The new high rack warehouse is commissioned in Burgwedel.

Rossmann develops new large sites in Frankfurt am Main, the Ruhr area and Munich. The first shop in the Bavarian metropolis, Munich, is opened on March 13. Reorganisation of kd in the Southwest region progresses quickly.
- 2005

On May 1, 2005, Rossmann takes over the kd Kaisers Drugstore GmbH, which belonged to the Tengelmann group. The takeover, involving about 300 kd shops, brought the number of Rossmann health and beauty shops to exceed 1,100 in Germany.

The topping-out wreath was put in place on the new extension to the logistics centre in Landsberg on March 9. Rossmann invests a total of EUR 50m in the company’s new central logistics building, which should be commissioned by the beginning of 2007.
- 2007

The new national logistics concept is complete. The central logistics centre in Landsberg manages the regional distribution centres: West in Leverkusen, North in Burgwedel, South in Erfurt and East also in Landsberg. A completely new distribution centre is built in Leverkusen.

Once the Federal Cartel Authority had given its approval at the end of 2007, Rossmann buys the majority share of 89.9 % of the health and beauty retailer Kloppenburg in Schleswig-Holstein. Rossmann now operates just under 2,000 retail shops with 26,000 employees.
- 2009

The 2,000th shop opens in March. It is the largest Rossmann shop in Europe with more than 1,000 m² retail space. Rossmann enters its fourth East/South East European country and opens its first three shops in Albania. The first shop is in the capital city of Tirana.
- 2010

Rossmann enters Turkey, its fifth foreign market. The first shop opens in Ankara.
